Keeping Your New Baby Healthy

While babies are born into the world as fairly helpless, they soon begin exploring their world. Here are some tips to keep you baby healthy and happy in various common situations.

Avoid Too Much Outdoor Exposure
Remember that babies have very delicate skin so they can burn in sun that an adult would not even notice was strong. Always use sun block on your baby with a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of between 25 to 50. This factor does not stand for the number of hours you are safe for, it just means that your baby will be protected up to 50 times more than if they were not using any block at all. It's also a good idea to cover your baby with loose fitting cotton clothes but remember that they can still burn through clothes, so use a sun block as well. Newborn Babies Need a Car Seat

Make sure you have acquired a baby car seat before you pickup your baby from hospital.
Most hospitals will not allow you to bring your baby home without one. It doesn't matter if you borrow or buy, but do ensure that the seat is up to the current safety standards. It’s a good idea to practice putting it in and taking it out of the car before hand, as when you pick you new born up from the hospital it can be a very stressful day. And don’t forget that infants traveling on an airplane also need to be seated in an FAA certified car seat as well.

Even if it feels slightly awkward, pitch in and help with chores, diaper changings, feedings and playing.
