Pets for Kids
Kids and pets seem to go hand in hand. Whether it’s a new puppy, kitten, fish, bird or other critter, kids love holding and playing with them. Having a pet can also instill children with a sense of responsibility and discipline, as they learn how to take care of another living thing.

If you’re thinking about getting your child a pet, remember that certain animals are better suited for kids than others. It’s best to stay away from exotic pets that may seem interesting at the outset but quickly wear out their welcome. And remember that children need to be old enough to realistically help take care of them. Before you go all out with a pet, it may make sense to animal sit for a while to make sure that the family is willing to make a long term commitment to the care, feeding and cleanup of your new pet. Also think about whether you want an indoor or outdoor pet, taking into consideration issues such as possible allergic reactions and whether you mind Spot jumping all over your new sofa.

Once you’ve made the decision to add a furry (or not so furry) friend to the family, make sure you get your pet from a reputable shelter or pet store. Some of the more popular and easy to care for pets include dogs, cats, fish, hamsters, rabbits and turtles. All have varying needs and time commitments. Pets such as fish and hamsters can be great starter pets as their needs are pretty straightforward (and you don’t need to give them a daily walk!). But cats and dogs can also make great companions for kids as well as a comfort too. Once you bring your new pet home, you’ll quickly realize why so many families invite pets into their hearts and homes. A favorite pets becomes part of the family and provides fun, comfort and many memorable experiences.
