Product Recall Information

Every year, thousands of children are injured or killed when using products, sometimes even toys that are not safe. For example, in November 2005, 18-month-old Kenny Sweet died after swallowing the magnets in his Magnetix toy. After he swallowed them, the magnets combined in his stomach and blocked his intestine. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has now recalled 3.8 million of the Magnetix toy kits.

Cribs can be another source of danger for children. Cribs made before 1973, before federal guidelines went into effect, are more likely than newer models to have safety problems such as splinters, lead paint and slats that are too far apart (children can choke if they get their head between the slats). But even models manufactured as recently as 1991 can be unsafe, so you must check slat spacing stability, and be on the look out for sharp edges, protruding metal, and other dangers.
