Tips on Getting Pregnant

Perhaps one of the most stressful episodes in life is when you've been trying to get pregnant, but nothing seems to work. There are various reasons why couples fail to conceive. In some cases, it could be stress or a temporary medical condition. In other cases, there could be an underlying physical or biologic reason. And other times, it could just be a timing issue, caused by nothing more than the parents-to-be not “synching up” properly when levels of ovulation are most optimum. In any case, for couple trying to conceive, the experience can be frustrating and painful.

If you have been trying to conceive without success for a period of two years or more without success, your first stop should be to your Doctor. Your Doctor or subsequent medical specialist can run basic tests to evaluate if there are any physical issues including low sperm production in the male and proper egg production in the woman. In some cases, you may find that there is nothing physically wrong or that due to issues like low sperms count, it may take the couple longer than normal to achieve pregnancy. If, however, there is an underlying fertility issue, there are various steps that can be taken, starting with IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and running all the way through adoption. Note that any of these treatments require a significant investment in time and money, and that treatment options may not be covered by your insurance. Also be prepared for some trying moments if these options don’t work or take longer than expected.
